In this lycan vamp based FFRPG there are 3 species of vamp and a number of lycan species. This page is meant to give you details about them.

A few things all lycans and vamps have in common here are...
  • They age 1 human year for every 50 years of existence. They're not immortal.
  • Lycan immediate families are known as packs, vamps as clans, and the main extended bloodlines for either are known as tribes.
  • Females may produce a clean, living, human offspring of the body with one of their own species once every 500 years. They will be fertile for one month during that year, the month of their embrace or change, depending on species.
---The offspring will be free of vamp or lycan traits, completely human, and will age and develop as such, unless changed at some point during its life by one species or another.
  • Neither vamp nor lycan can breed with a human, or another species, under any circumstances.
  • Contaminated blood alone cannot change a person. They must be bitten as well, even if their parents are vamp or lycan. This applies to vamps. Lycans are created by bite alone.
  • Staking either vamp or lycan in the heart with rosewood or silver does not destroy them. It only paralizes them. If the stake is removed, deliberately or otherwise, while the body is still intact, the vamp or lycan will regain their strength and motor functions in a matter of minutes.
  • Both lycans and vamps have the ability to shape shift to an animal form, provided the two forms are relatively equal in body mass. Vamps can only shift into 1 of 3 animals, which is dictated by their vamp species. A lycan can only shift into the animal of their subspecies, such as a wolf for a werewolf, a cat for a werecat. Shape shifting takes both effort and time. At least a short period of rest is required after any shift, no matter the species.

First there is the Vampire. Of the vamps, these are the most closely related to humans, have the most human appearance, are the least dangerous, and the youngest. The entire species is believed to be less than a 1000 years old. They take the shortest time to turn, only 3 to 4 days, are able to eat small amounts of solid food, and can endure sunlight for up to 2 hours before suffering ill effects, such as severe blistering. They only need to feed twice a week, and are only slightly stronger than an average healthy human. These vamps can be destroyed by bleeding to death, fire, beheading, or exposure to sunlight for more than 4 hours. Their primary strengths are in their healing abilities, usually only needing a day to heal severe wounds, but they cannot regenerate lost limbs. They also have diverse psychic gifts, such as telepathy, giving them the ability to convince their prey to surrender to them. Due to their lack of physical strength, their usual method of embrace is seduction. This vamp species has the ability to shape shift into a large predatory cat, bloodline dictates which cat.

Next there is the Vampyre. Of the vamps, they're the most widely spread, mostly due to the difficulty in killing them. They're very pale, corpse-like, with pale eyes and go to great lengths to disguise their appearance when hunting in public. After a feed, they can endure sunlight for several hours, regenerate minor injuries in minutes, more severe wounds within hours, and even regrow lost limbs in a few days. These vamps take about 2 weeks to turn. Afterward, they're unable to eat solid food, but are still able take in liquids. More often than not, these vamps kill, rather than embrace. They do not socialize with humans, basically seeing them as animals or slaves, unworthy of respect or consideration. As a result, their chosen victim is often cruelly used and abused during the embrace, and can expect no better treatment afterward, when they are known as a fledgling. These vamps feed as much on the energy of their victim's fear as on their blood. It is even said some Vampyres have been known to take Vampires under their protection in exchange for their submitting to them. This works out for the Vampyre because the Vampire can endure more than a human, and will heal more quickly, so they're able to use them more heavily and more often. It also works to the advantage of the Vampire, their Vampyre partner will protect what they consider their property, so they needn't worry about attack from other stronger vamps. These vamps can be destroyed by beheading and fire, and must feed each night. If they are injured, and too much blood is lost, they will slip into a comatose state and remain there until fed enough blood to wake them. This species of vamp has the ability to shape shift into the form of a large wolf, bloodline dictates which subspecies of wolf.

Vampyrs are the oldest and most powerful of the vamp species. They're believed to the first species, the originals, from which others have evolved. They can take up to a month to embrace, and do not partake in human society, seeing humans as lower creatures, unworthy of recognition. To them, a human is respected less than a lab rat. On the rare occassion they do choose a human to embrace, the victim can expect to be sadistically tortured during their embrace, until the sire feels all the impurities of their former, weaker humanity have been driven from them. These vamps are thought to be responsible for the legends of the Nosferatu. Their skin has a mottled grey appearance, the irises of their eyes are black, making their pupils seem overly large, the insides of their mouths are known to be black, and they are virtually hairless. They feed not only physically on the blood of their victims, but also on the energy of their fear, and they are known to feed more than once a night. They can heal faster than any other vamp species, even to regrowing a lost limb within hours. The only known means of destroying these vamps is beheading and burning the body and the head separately, then scattering the ashes over open water. If the ashes are ever gathered together, the Vampyr can be resurrected by spilling the blood of an innocent on them. These are the only vamps with the power of resurrection. In the unlikely event a Vampyr looses too much blood, they may be thrown into a feeding frenzy and attack anything within sight, even other vamps, until they have fed enough to snap them out of it. This species of vamp has the ability to shape shift into a large predatory bird, such as an eagle or hawk, bloodline dictates which type of bird.

Lycan genetics and abilities are more heavily based on animals than any other species. This gives them a main species of Lycan for their shifting abilities, and any number of subspecies. However, available subspecies are dictated by body mass. In other words, a wererat or were-elephant are not possible due to the difference in body mass between the human form and the animal form. Each lycan pack has its own animal subspecies, and a male and female must be lycan, and of the same subspecies. to breed. Newly turned, often referred to as youngsters or pups, often have difficulty learning to control their shifting abilities the first few years. It's not uncommon for them to get excited and unexpectedly start to change, or end up stuck somewhere between their human form and their animal form, sometimes for days. Shifting is not only physically strenuous for a lycan, but mentally. It is not simply a change of body, but of mind as well. Their animal instincts are present while in their human form, but controlled by their human mind, repressed. When they are in their animal form, those instincts take over almost completely. There is very little of the human left within them during these times.
